யாழ் கோட்டை !

Jaffna Fort was originally built by the Portuguese in 1618 and used as a small garrison before being captured by the Dutch in 1658. The Fort was then taken over by the British in 1795 and today commands an area of over 49 acres.

The five sided inner defence walls consist of large ramparts surrounded by a wide moat. And unlike the Dutch forts at Galle and Colombo, which were fortified towns, the Jaffna fort played almost exclusively military and administrative functions.
